Recently I've replaced it with SN01G VCA Comp from Sender Spike. Yes I used to SLAX sometimes, that's a good one but I find it too dark. I got a bit better results with similar setting using Kotelnikov, but again too clean. I think it needs to be mixed within the process it's self. Yes I think the problem is it's too clean, adding distortion before or after doesn't help either. Otherwise I would go with the vocal leveler thingy from the same dev. I'd go with the Sonic Anomaly SLAX JS plugin, if it has to be la2a style, and as close to native as possible. That -should- work, but reacomp is a tad too clean and precise. I'd use ReComp over Waves LAxA any day of the week :) However, if you DO succeed, please do share the settings. They are good enough, but the WC sucks balls. When it comes to mimic the good old hardwares or dedicated plugins like LAxA and 1176, you won't succeed with ReaComp (at least not with one instance of ReaComp alone), because they simply work differently under the hood. I tried and let others do some A/B's tests, but the "the real thing" was always spotted, especially by those with experienced ears. I believe I came very close, much thanks to help and tips from others, but one could hear it wasn't close enough to "fool" anyone. After all, Rea-plugins kick butt, especially ReaComp and ReaDelay. Not necessarily because I couldn't buy the dedicated plugin (from Waves, Universal Audio, etc), rather because I liked the idea of using the Rea-plugins as much ass possible. Oh man, I tried that for years – to get ReaComp (sometimes combined with additional effects) to "sound" like the LAxA and 1176.
